Permanency, Safety And Lifelong Connections From The Very First Day

Welcome Home Baby is a voluntary home visiting service for all families who deliver their first baby at select hospitals in Contra Costa County, California.  Currently the program serves approximately 1,300 families per year in a county of one million residents and 4,800 annual first-time births.

Family Support Specialists are skilled in:

  • Helping to schedule medical appointments
  • Educating the family about nutrition and feeding
  • Explaining growth and development of the baby
  • Navigating public transportation routes
  • Testing the baby for developmental progress
  • Providing English to Spanish translations
  • Recommending classes and support groups
  • Aiding in employment searches
  • Identifying housing resources

A Welcome Home Baby Family Support Specialist visits families to ensure the family has the support it needs to care for and support a new family member. Since this program began, child abuse reports to child protective services for this age group has dropped 60%.
