What is Multidimensional Treatment Foster Care?

  • MTFC is specialized foster care for teens (ages 12– 17) designed to help them eliminate/decrease negative behaviors and discover newfound success at home, in school and in their communities.
  • MTFC is a program targeted to teens that have been in and out of foster care throughout their lives and have exhibited behavioral and emotional difficulties.
  • MTFC is an innovative and collaborative approach to foster parenting
  • MTFC is one of the most challenging jobs you will ever do!
  • MTFC is one of the most rewarding experiences you will ever have!

How is MTFC parenting different?

  • Trained MTFC parents collaborate with a professional team to execute a well-coordinated individualized treatment plan
  • MTFC parents work together with a program supervisor, individual and family therapists and a life skills coach
  • MTFC parents receive support 24/7
  • MTFC placement is short-term – generally lasting only 6 – 9 months
  • MTFC parents foster only one teen at a time
  • MFTC parents receive a $2,100/month stipend

What are the MTFC requirements?

  • You must be an adult, living in Ventura County
  • Completion of the MTFC pre-certification training program
  • Foster Parents must have a flexible work situation that allows for daily communication and one weekly meeting with other members of the MTFC treatment team
  • Willingness to open your heart and your home to a troubled teen!

A good MTFC parent is...

  • Task oriented, process driven, organized and timely
  • Comfortable defining and delivering consequences
  • Calm, non-reactive and doesn’t take things personally
  • Has a good sense of humor
  • Someone who has previously been a foster parent or has worked in a group home
  • Someone who prefers a structured environment
  • A person who knows that life’s biggest rewards often come from life’s greatest challenges!

What are the MTFC goals?

  • To provide a structured and loving home environment (generally 6 to 9 months)
  • To surround teens with positive role models and separate them from negative peers
  • To successfully reunite foster teens with a permanent family (birth, relative or foster) within in a relatively short period of time
  • To promote self esteem and social acceptance
  • To help a teen discover his or her own inner hero
  • To make a difference – one young life at a time!
